At Under the Cedars, the mission is to help children develop confidence, resilience, understanding, and a deep love for the area through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences.

We accomplish this through:

Experiential Learning

Experiential learning is all about doing, not just observing. By learning through direct experience, kids don’t just memorize facts, they understand why things work, how to solve problems, and what it means to take initiative. At Under the Cedars, kids get to learn by exploring, creating, collaborating, and solving real problems. This kind of learning sticks because it’s meaningful, memorable, and grounded in real life.

We combine structured activities with open-ended time in the woods and rivers, projects, and visits to community spaces. Our days are designed to help children build confidence, real-world skills, emotional resilience, and a lasting connection to their environment.

Risky Play

Risky play is a vital part of healthy development. In our classrooms, we provide a space for children to climb, explore, use tools, and take age-appropriate risks. Here, the emphasis is that risky play is supported with caring adult supervision and thoughtful guidance. This allows the children to challenge their limits AND have a sense of safety. Your child will gain not only practical skills, but also emotional strength, independence, and a deeper trust in themselves and their abilities.

Our philosophy centers around the idea that growth happens best when children are supported with clear boundaries, trusted with responsibility, and given the freedom to explore the world around them through experience, not just instruction.

Classrooms will be in the communities of Heron, Noxon and Trout Creek and we will rotate, spending approximately one/two months at each site.

School will not be cancelled due to weather unless it is extreme (winter storm warnings, temps below 25* etc)

"There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes."

In the event of a school day being cancelled, a make-up day will be offered.

Tuition is $200/mo per child, and you can sign up on a month-to-month basis.

Space is limited as we intentionally keep our class sizes small.

We anticipate a waiting list so you will need to sign your child up for the next month as soon as possible

to not lose their spot. If the wait list grows large enough for a second class, we may accommodate that.

Want to schedule a visit to see if our program is a good fit for your child?

We will open up for visits starting in October. Please reach out through the CONTACT page to schedule.

To enroll, please send an inquiry and Sarah will reach out to you ASAP!
